One Room Challenge: WEEK 4 Progress Update on Coastal Glam Nursery

Halfway There!

(and living on a prayer… that we finish in time!)

It’s week four of the One Room Challenge and this has been a slow week of prepping and treating the walls in Baby Girl’s nursery. This has not been my favorite week, I’ll admit. I just might be the world’s messiest painter, and despite my best efforts, I always end up having to touch up areas after the painter’s tape comes down. I also find the whole painting process to be incredibly boring, (you know, kinda like watching paint dry…) However, I am loving the Sherwin Williams Super Paint with Air Purifying Technology that was recommended to reduce VOCs and off-gassing, which is good for both baby and mom (It’s the first time I haven’t ended up with a headache after painting!)

SW 6463 Breaktime

I used one of my favorite color match tools to select a paint color to coordinate with our wallpaper: Breaktime and Extra White (both by Sherwin Williams) .

Breaktime is a coastal green with blue undertones, making it a perfect match for the boho beach vibes we are trying to capture.

After putting up the primer, my husband and I both really liked the clean, pure primer white; we even considered just keeping the primer as is, but I did some research and it is not recommended as a finish— in case you’re wondering! Extra White, however, gave us that same pure white classic look.

Before painting, we measured and marked the height of the chain rail moulding to divide the top of the wall (which we painted Extra White) and the bottom of the wall (painted in Breaktime). I did two coats, waiting four hours in between coats and 24 hours before removing the painter’s tape. I will note, we had some issues with the paint peeling when we removed the tape, so I ended up using a straight edge to break the seal between the tape and paint to help reduce peeling.

To break up the tedium of painting, I also ordered a few other nursery DIY items that should be arriving soon:

The picture frame moulding will frame the wallpaper in a similar look to this inspiration photo by Alexa at Home.

Looking ahead

Our goal for the rest of the week is to add the chair rail and start on the picture frame trim detail on the upper portion of the walls.

I had a few rolls of wallpaper arrive damaged, so we’ll do what we can until the replacements arrive.

I’m looking forward to finishing the walls so we can start on the fun stuff: furniture & art!
