I recently came across Erica Layne's Life on Purpose Movement, which is about taking yourself out of autopilot-mode and moving into a more active role in the path of your life. As we enter the new year, this phrase, life on purpose, keeps coming back to me.
Time for a Change?
About three years ago, my husband and I realized we were living our lives on autopilot and had somehow become passive participants in our own lives. We looked around and asked ourselves, is this really what we want? From that point on, we moved ourselves out of the passenger seat and into the driver's.
We made some pretty drastic changes in our lives in order to reclaim them, including moving in with my in-laws for ten months and uprooting to a town we had discovered only four months earlier, determined to start living our lives on purpose. In the ten years we have been married, we have never been happier.
As you enter into 2019, I invite you to think about the ways in which you are living your life on purpose. Is life happening to you or are you actively building the life you want for yourself and your family?
Your choices don't have to be as drastic as ours were. In fact, we began the process by decluttering and eliminating the items in our lives that were keeping us from living the lives we envisioned for ourselves.
Once we started down the path of letting go of the little things, we were able to let go of the big things: like the uber-expensive Arlington rental we were living in. The rent money we were spending every month was keeping us from saving up for our own home. With our eyes on the prize, we swallowed our pride and made a call to my in-laws. After eleven years of renting, in just ten months we were able to squirrel away enough money for a down payment on our first home.
Choosing what to keep in your life is as important as deciding what to remove.
If you're ready to take back the reins in your home and life, now is the time. And we can do it, together. Let’s make 2019 a year of purposeful living.
Until next time, keep on enjoying this one & wonderful life,
