ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: Week 6

Week Five of the One Room Challenge was definitely my favorite thus far! All the hard work of planning, painting, nailing & crafting finally started to come together and our French Coastal Boho nursery is looking like, well, a nursery!

This week we are focusing on doing some glow ups on the the thrifted furniture finds we sourced over the past few weeks.

Thrifted Finds

To help us stay within our budget for the nursery design we chose to by buy second hand furniture rather than new, and I scored big on my Facebook Marketplace finds for Baby Girl’s room!

Aurora 5-in-1 Crib

I fell in love with the feminine French detail of Evolur’s Aurora crib back in February and sleuthed Marketplace all the way from Wilmington, NC to Washington, DC to find a used one.

After much searching, I finally found one in Quantico, VA and arranged to have my husband pick it up on his way up to DC to visit family— he drove 350 miles with this thing tied to the top of our SUV and it was so worth it!

Retail: $500

Thrifted Price: $250

Book Nook

Free hutch we listed as Curb Alert on Marketplace

With a few simple adjustments, it made the cutest little bookcase!

We needed a something near the rocking chair to set bottles on and easily access books for bedtime, so when I spotted this free little hutch listed for curb alert, I dropped everything to run out and snag it (Luckily this piece was just right down the road this time). It had all the potential to create the perfect little window book nook.

My husband used a table saw to cut off the bottom portion of the hutch which had a bulletin board on it and I refinished it with two coats of extra white paint we had on hand, which means this adorable piece cost us exactly zero dollars!

(I am resisting the urge to buy items to decorate the shelves because we will likely end up with some pretty cute options after our baby shower—- I will update with final pics when it’s ready!)

Small Bookcase on Amazon: $180
Thrifted Price: $0

Diaper Changing Station

Before: Sad little dresser listed on MP for $40

In Process: After some light sanding and two coats of paint, she is already on her way to being beautiful again

This sad little dresser was only $40 on Marketplace and although it is pretty rough shape, I am pretty excited about turning this piece into a custom diaper changing station. This week I removed hardware, sanded & painted and am hoping to finish this piece over the weekend (although, the new hardware I ordered hasn’t arrived yet, so we’ll see!)

Diaper Changing Station on Amazon: $299

Thrifted Price: $40

Stay Tuned…

With only two weeks left of the One Room Challenge I am feeling pretty confident we will finish the nursery in time for the big reveal on Week 8. Check back next week to see how it’s all coming together and be sure to check out my fellow ORC participants’ progress here.

Until next time,
